The seven sites that are expected to deliver tens of thousands of Covid-19 vaccinations each week have been revealed today.
All of the centres are set to open next week, however it has not been confirmed on what day, or whether they will all open at the same time.
The mega-centres are:
- The NHS “Nightingale” centre at the ExCel
- Epsom racecourse in Surrey
- Robertson House in Stevenage
- Centre for Life in Newcastle
- The Etihad Tennis Centre in Manchester
- Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol
- Millennium Point in Birmingham
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister confirmed 1,300,000 people in the UK had now received their first dose of the vaccine, with 1,100,000 of them receiving in England. This figure also include 650,000 people over the age of 80.
Covid Vaccine Deployment Minister Nadhim Zahawi told Sky News: ‘I’m confident that as we begin to deploy and get more sites operational – I talked about the hospitals, the GPs, the community pharmacies and the national vaccination centres – so we will be at over 1,000 sites vaccinating.
‘I’m confident you will see, certainly from January 4 to January 11, a real step up. So we’ve done over 1.3 million since December 8, you’re going to see a massive acceleration of that.’
