Half-Term Family Fun Returns to Avebury with Trails, Games and Mixed-Reality Adventure

Families heading to Avebury this half-term will find plenty to keep younger visitors entertained, with a packed programme of indoor and outdoor activities running throughout the week.

From Saturday 23 May until Sunday 31 May, Avebury will host a range of family-friendly experiences across the manor, gardens and grounds.

One of the main attractions this year is the new Busy Bees trail in Avebury Manor Garden, where children can follow an interactive route featuring honeycomb puzzles, watering stations and bee-themed activities celebrating the role pollinators play within the gardens.

The manor gardens will also feature teepees, deckchairs, obstacle courses and traditional outdoor games in the Church Garden area.

Families with younger or neurodivergent children can also pick up a free sensory map designed to encourage visitors to explore sounds, scents and wildlife around the site at their own pace.

Dogs on short fixed leads are welcome within the gardens.

Inside Avebury Manor, visitors can explore the newly reopened “Avebury at Home” experience, which includes play dens, dressing-up areas, toys, books and puzzles aimed at younger children.

Interactive activities continue in the barn, where free colouring, jigsaws and magnetic building tables allow children to create their own miniature neolithic structures.

The site is also launching a new mixed-reality experience called Ages of Avebury, aimed at younger gamers and families.

The free mobile experience allows visitors to become virtual surveyors searching for hidden stones while uncovering the mystery of a missing archaeologist. The downloadable app also includes augmented reality features that bring parts of Avebury’s ancient landscape to life.

Entry to the gardens and manor is free for National Trust members.
