Witness appeal after cyclist threatened in attempted robbery

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted knifepoint robbery in Swindon.

It happened at around 1.15pm on Saturday (26/10/19) when the victim, a man in his 30s, was cycling along the Croft Trail.

He was approached by two men who threatened him and tried to steal his bike.

However, the victim managed to cycle off without anything being stolen.

The first suspect is described as white, in his late teens, over 6ft tall, with a young face and bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a black North Face jacket and light blue denim jeans which were elasticated around the ankles. He was also wearing white Nike trainers.

The second suspect was also white and of a similar age, but was shorter – around 5ft 9ins tall. His hair was shaved at the sides and short on top, and he was wearing a green bomber jacket and dark jeans and trainers. He also had a tattoo on his hand.

Both men spoke with local accents and the one wearing the black jacket was carrying a kitchen knife.

Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID, said: “We have very detailed descriptions of these two men and we know that someone will read this and recognise them.

“Perhaps you were also at Croft Trail on Saturday and also saw them? You may have been driving close by and have dash cam footage of them before or after the robbery?

“We would urge anyone with information to come forward and assist with our enquiries.”

Officers will be carrying out increased patrols of Croft Trail next weekend.

Anyone with information should call Swindon CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54190106791. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
