Prospect Hospice has once again been named charity of the year for the Swindon Half Marathon as preparations begin for this year’s race in September.
The hospice will partner with the popular annual event for the second consecutive year, with organisers expecting hundreds of runners to take part when the half marathon returns on Sunday 27 September.
Known for its welcoming atmosphere and accessible route, the 13.1-mile race regularly attracts everyone from experienced distance runners to those attempting their first major challenge.
Prospect Hospice is now encouraging local residents, businesses and community groups to pull on their running shoes and sign up for charity places to help raise funds for hospice care across Swindon and the surrounding area.
The charity says money raised through the event will help support patients and families facing life limiting illness, ensuring care and support remains available when it is needed most.
As part of its involvement, the hospice will provide runners with fundraising support, training encouragement and practical advice in the build-up to race day.
Local firms are also being invited to enter workplace teams, with organisers promoting the event as an opportunity for businesses to support staff wellbeing while giving something back to the community.
Ben Lee, Head of Community Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said the charity was pleased to continue its partnership with the event.
“We are delighted to be the Swindon Half Marathon’s charity of the year once again,” he said.
“Taking part in this much-loved local event is a fantastic way for individuals and teams to challenge themselves, while making a real difference for people in our community who rely on hospice care.”
Places are available now, with runners being encouraged to sign up early ahead of what is expected to be another busy year for the event.
