According to the data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), at the start of this week, one in 50 people are estimated to have coronavirus, up from just one in 900 in September.
With the latest 24 hour case count at a record-high 60,916 cases, over one million people are currently infected with Covid-19.
In the Downing Street press conference today, Boris Johnson also revealed that 1.3 million people across the UK had already been vaccinated against the virus, 1.1 million of which were in England.
This figure includes 650,000 of the over 80s meaning 23% of that age bracket had already been vaccinated ahead of the AstraZeneca rollout.
Mr Johnson also confirmed that from Monday, there will be a daily update on the number of vaccination administered.
