Health Secretary Matt Hancock will lead a Downing Street press conference this afternoon following a review of the four-tier system in England.
Joined by the deputy chief medical officer, Dr Jenny Harries, and Dr Susan Hopkins of Public Health England it is widely reported that the press conference will reveal more areas England will head into Tier 4 from Boxing Day.
An unnamed person who was in the Gold Command meeting, which also discussed a nationwide lockdown speaking to The Mirror said: “The situation is developing quickly so we need to respond at the same pace.
“It’s more likely that other parts of England could be put into Tier 4 from Boxing Day”.
Even with Swindon’s continued rise in case numbers it is hoped we will escape the toughest tier when Matt Hancock addresses the nation sometime between 3 pm and 3.30 pm.
