Officers found damage to a glass door, along with a cabinet inside the shop which had been targeted for alcohol. Descriptions of those involved were quickly circulated, and police carried out searches of the surrounding area.
A man in his 40s was arrested a short time later on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody at Gablecross while enquiries continue.
Police say a second suspect is still outstanding and investigations are ongoing.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the Havelock Square area between 11pm and midnight.
