Fraudsters have been calling up members of the public claiming to be from Thomas Cook and asking for their bank details.
Fraudsters claiming to be from Thomas Cook have been trying to scam already out-of-pocket holidaymakers according to the Association of British Travel Agents, ABTA.
WARNING ⚠️ ABTA has had reports of members of the public being cold-called and asked if they have a #ThomasCook booking and then asked for their bank details. This is a SCAM. The 178-year-old travel agency announced early on Monday morning it had ceased trading, causing more than 9,000 British jobs to be lost.
Those who booked holidays through the firm are also facing an uncertainty about whether or not their money will be refunded.
But some have seen this as an opportunity to take advantage with scammers calling them up and impersonating Thomas Cook workers.
According to the warning, callers are then reportedly asking for the card numbers and financial details of the affected individuals, claiming they will offer a refund for the money that has been lost.
Around 150,000 Brits were left stranded abroad in the wake of the difficulties, leading to the subsequent push to return them home being branded ‘the largest repatriation since Dunkirk’.
