There are just a few places left for one of Swindon’s more unusual fundraising challenges, with supporters being invited to step over the edge of Great Western Hospital for the Brighter Futures Abseil Challenge.
The event takes place on Saturday 19 September, when participants will abseil 90ft from the roof of the hospital while raising money for the Meadows Unit.
The unit supports patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment, with funds raised through the challenge helping to support local healthcare.
Organised by Brighter Futures, the hospital’s charity, the abseil will be run with the help of experienced instructors from local company Rockyventures Ltd.
There is no previous abseiling experience required, meaning the event is open to individuals as well as groups of friends, families and workplace teams.
For some, it will be about facing a fear of heights. For others, it could be a chance to tick something off the bucket list or take on a challenge in memory or support of someone close to them.
Colby Cain, Community & Events Fundraising Manager at Brighter Futures, said the event offered people the chance to challenge themselves while helping local patients.
“This is one of our most exciting fundraising events and a fantastic opportunity for people to challenge themselves while making a real difference to local healthcare,” said Colby.
“Places are filling up quickly, and we’d encourage anyone thinking about taking part to secure their spot now before it’s too late.”
Participants will descend the side of one of Swindon’s most recognisable buildings, with the views from the hospital roof providing an added bonus before the descent begins.
With places limited and expected to sell out, anyone hoping to take part is being encouraged to register soon.
