Beauty therapist goes back to college

Creating an environment that makes customers feel tranquil transporting them into their inner relaxed self is exactly what ‘The Salon’ based at Swindon College has finessed the fine art of doing.

The Salon has been open now for two years and it has already established itself as one of the places to go in town to get your beauty treatments done – thanks to the hard work and vision of manager Hollie Sumbler.

Hollie was a former student at the college 17 years ago learning her craft in beauty obtaining qualifications in Level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy. She went on to work for a well-established salon in London where she became a Deputy Manager and built up an impressive cliental list before returning to Swindon where she saw the opportunity to become the manager at The Salon.

“The facilities are beautiful here and we have a fantastic range of treatments, there’s something for everyone.

“I want this to continue to grow and become our clients’ happy place to go to where they can relax and let their worries disappear whilst they receive a first class service – you can see how much that means to our customers.”

Hollie says the reason they have been very successful is because they go that extra mile with their services and personal attention to their customers.

She added: “I have used what I have learned and my experiences to create an inclusive atmosphere here.

“It’s a unique salon with a huge space that is divided into different treatment sections which gives the customers a variety of options to choose from.”

Having a fantastic facility such as this on campus has also helped students completing hair and beauty courses have the chance to gain real-life industry experience before they qualify.

This is an amazing opportunity for students who aspire to do this as a profession to be able to put their skills to the test in transforming clients. They will also face trade tests by their teachers who expect nothing less than the best.

From manicures and pedicures to waxing the salon offers clients a whole host of treatments including IPL laser hair removal – you can even get your hair cut by a hairdresser or barber.

In 2017 The Salon was officially opened by beauty entrepreneur Eve Taylor OBE who is regarded by many as a pioneer of modern day aromatherapy treatment – all of Eve Taylor’s products are not tested on animals.

Also in attendance at the launch were some high-profile guests including Amanda Sawyer from the Good Salon Guide, Cath Kidman from VTCT one of the main awarding bodies for the qualifications run by Swindon College, Tim Taylor of Lynton Lasers, supplier of the IPL machine and Jan Hosaka from Ellisons, a long-standing supplier of hair and beauty products to the College.
