Schools in Swindon will receive an extra 5.08 per cent funding per pupil over the next year as part of the Boris Johnson’s bid to “level up” primary and secondary education across the country.
As announced in August schools in England are being promised billions more in spending over the next three years.
The uplift will amount to £2.6bn next year, rising to £4.8bn the following year – with £7.1bn extra pledged by 2022-23 taking the total schools budget up to £52.2bn.
The extra money, available from April, will ensure that per-pupil funding for all schools can rise at least in line with inflation and will deliver promised gains in full for areas which have been historically under-funded.
Every secondary school pupil in Swindon will receive a minimum of £5,000 next year with primary school pupils receiving a minimum of £4,000 by 2021-22.
Swindon MPs have welcomed this new funding with Justin Tomlinson saying, “Robert and I have worked hard to champion our local schools and we are delighted to have helped secure this vital additional funding, in addition to the recent new schools including the Great Western Academy and The Deanery. This remains a real priority for us.”
Commenting on the announcement Robert Buckland MP said, “Every child in Swindon deserves the best possible start in life – regardless of their background or where they live.
“The 5.08% per pupil funding boost next year will mean that every school in Swindon will receive a budget increase, giving teachers, parents and pupils the certainty to plan, and boost standards in our schools.”
