A woman has been jailed after stabbing a teenage boy with a champagne glass during a shocking and unprovoked attack at a house party in Swindon.
Drew Stanton-Foreman, 21, of Redhouse Way, was sentenced to two years and eight months in custody at Swindon Crown Court on Monday (17th March) for inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on a 17-year-old boy.
The attack took place at a house on Ferndale Road during a belated birthday party on 4th June 2023. Stanton-Foreman had been drinking heavily throughout the evening when, at around 12.40am, she entered the kitchen, grabbed a champagne glass, smashed it against the counter, and stabbed the victim in the neck without warning.
Several people were in the kitchen at the time, casually talking about football, when the attack happened. Witnesses said the attack was completely unprovoked and left the victim with a severe wound to his neck that could have been fatal.
Following the assault, Stanton-Foreman reportedly turned to others in the room and chillingly asked if they “wanted to be stabbed too.”
In a statement read out in court, the victim described how the attack has left lasting emotional and physical scars:
“I still can’t understand why this happened or the reason for it. I’ve seen my mum worry about me more and I’ve had to watch her be strong for me, knowing that I could have died. She doesn’t want to stop me from going out and enjoying my life, but now she’s always on edge, wondering what phone call she might get next.”
Complex Crime Investigator Catherine Baird said Stanton-Foreman initially denied the severity of her actions, pleading guilty to a lesser charge of causing serious harm without intent.
“She claimed she must have been spiked, but toxicology reports showed no evidence of this — she was simply very drunk,” said Baird.
Psychiatric reports found no evidence of any mental health condition that could explain the attack. Stanton-Foreman eventually changed her plea to guilty after the findings were presented in court.
Baird added: “The victim now has to live with a visible scar and lasting nerve damage as a constant reminder of Stanton-Foreman’s horrific actions.”
