Witness appeal after man arrested in connection with an attempted robbery and two sexual assaults

Wiltshire Police are seeking witnesses after an attempted robbery and two sexual assaults that took place in Swindon’s town centre last week.
Shortly before 1 pm on Tuesday 1 June, it is reported that an elderly couple had just got some money out of a bank to pay their rent when they have been approached at the top of Regent Street, near to the Central Library, by a man on a bike who has tried to grab the money and a mobile phone. The suspect then proceeded to assault both the elderly couple causing injuries.
Following the attempted robbery, it is understood that the suspect has then ridden his bike Regent Street into the town centre and then sexually assaulted a woman at approximately 1.30pm before travelling towards Groundwell Road and committing a further sexual assault on a girl shortly after 2pm. It is believed that members of the public have pulled over and challenged him on his behaviour.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and two counts of sexual assault and has since been released pending further enquiries.
PC Adam Horwood of the Swindon Response Team said: “This would have been a horrific ordeal for the victims involved, and we are keen to hear from anyone who have witnessed any of these incidents.
“All these offences occurred in broad daylight and there would have been a number of people around the top of Regent Street when the attempted robbery took place and when the sexual assaults took place.
“If anyone has seen any of these incidents we urge you to please come forward and contact us on 101, quoting crime number 54210052263.”
