A new Wiltshire-based venture is inviting people to slow the pace, step away from routine and reconnect through carefully curated experiences that blend travel, learning and shared moments.
Enlightening Escapes is the latest collaboration from three local entrepreneurs who believe that meaningful learning happens best when people feel relaxed, welcomed and genuinely involved.
The business has been launched by Janet Shreeve, founder of care consultancy Shreeve Care Services; Fiona Scott, founder of Swindon PR agency Scott Media; and Chippenham-based media consultant Lauren Roberts.
The idea grew naturally from years spent working closely with people, hearing their stories and recognising what truly helps individuals reset and gain clarity. Rather than large-scale conferences or formal workshops, Enlightening Escapes focuses on smaller, more personal gatherings where conversation and connection can unfold at their own pace.
Fiona said the concept reflects conversations the trio were already having.
“Between us, we’ve built relationships with people doing genuinely interesting things, from creatives and business owners to chefs and makers,” she said. “Enlightening Escapes allows us to bring those people together in a setting where nothing feels forced and discussion happens naturally.”
Lauren added that the approach draws on skills developed across very different careers.
“We all come from varied professional backgrounds, but we share experience in communication, storytelling and confidence-building,” she said. “People take more from learning when they feel at ease, so these escapes are shaped around shared experiences rather than formal presentations.”
Each escape is bespoke, with some leaning towards business learning, others focused on lifestyle and creativity, and many blending the two.
The first overnight retreat is scheduled for March 2026 at Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort. The weekend will centre on TikTok and video content, featuring practical insights from business owners who use video as part of their daily work. Speakers include Malmesbury-based artist and creator Luke Hollingworth, alongside family law specialist Steven Wade, whose online videos have reached audiences across the globe.
Not every event involves travelling or staying overnight. In February 2026, Enlightening Escapes will host an evening in Swindon’s Old Town celebrating Thai cuisine, led by 2025 MasterChef finalist Sam Kaeokon. The event will combine food, personal stories and relaxed conversation, offering guests an insight into Sam’s journey and passion for cooking.
Looking further ahead, plans are already in place for escapes in Italy later in 2026.
Janet said Italy feels like a natural next step.
“I lived there for several years and speak the language, which means we already have strong local connections,” she explained. “That gives us the chance to create experiences rooted in everyday Italian life, from cooking and olive oil making to meeting local fashion designers.”
With its mix of thoughtful learning, inspiring people and carefully chosen settings, Enlightening Escapes aims to offer something different for those looking to step back, reflect and reconnect.
