Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance aims to double donations through Big Give Christmas Challenge

Christmas often brings out the best in people, and this year those living in Wiltshire and Bath have the chance to make their generosity count for even more. Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity has joined the Big Give Christmas Challenge, running from 2 to 9 December, meaning every pound donated to its latest appeal will be matched without donors spending an extra penny.

The focus of the appeal is the crew’s uniform — kit that has, in some cases, been in service for up to seven years. Much of it was originally designed with a standard male fit, despite nearly a quarter of the Charity’s pilots, doctors and paramedics being women. The aim is to raise £37,300 to replace ageing items and to ensure new kit properly suits the whole crew.

It may sound like a simple wardrobe refresh, but for those working at the sharp end of emergency medicine, the cut and quality of their clothing is far more than a matter of appearance. Well-fitting gear contributes to the crew’s comfort, mobility and overall safety, especially when they find themselves working in fields, road verges, cramped homes or other unpredictable environments.

Dr Maria Smith, the Charity’s medical director, explained the impact more plainly:
“Our crew work tirelessly in challenging and unpredictable environments to save lives. Providing them with high-quality, functional uniforms isn’t just about appearance, it’s about safety, comfort and performance. By supporting this campaign, you’re directly helping our team stay equipped and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Every donation makes a real difference — thank you.”

The Big Give’s matched-funding model means donations have twice the impact. A contribution of £50, for example, instantly becomes £100, boosting the Charity’s ability to kit out those delivering critical care across Wiltshire and Bath, whether by air or on the ground.

Should the target be exceeded, any additional funds will continue to support the organisation’s lifesaving work.

Donations can be made through the Charity’s Big Give campaign page between 2 and 9 December.
