Teenage boy arrested following reports of suspicious activity

A teenager was arrested in Swindon yesterday morning after members of the public raised concerns about youths acting suspiciously in the Windermere area.

Wiltshire Police were called shortly before 7am yesterday morning reporting three youths on two mopeds and when officers arrived at the scene they made off but were chased on foot.

The police helicopter and dog units were deployed to assist with the search and officers recovered a stolen moped, which had been abandoned by the group.

Following information from the public, a teenager was detained after making off from a garden.

When arrested and searched he was found in possession of small amount of what is believed to be cannabis, which has been seized.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a Class B drug. He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Enquiries continue to identify the other youths involved.

Sgt David Tippetts, from Swindon South Community Policing Team, said: “This incident proves the importance of community intelligence in our efforts to crack down on these types of criminal behaviour.

“Two separate people saw something which didn’t seem right, so called us and we were able to take swift action and make this arrest.
