Swindon & Wiltshire Pride is inviting residents to pull on their walking boots, lace up their trainers or hop on their bikes this June as part of a new virtual fundraising challenge celebrating Pride Month.
The organisation has launched Miles for Pride, an inclusive month-long event encouraging participants to complete a combined total of 154.9 miles while virtually exploring landmarks across Swindon and Wiltshire.
Open to people of all ages and abilities, the challenge can be completed however participants choose, whether by walking, running, cycling or a combination of activities throughout June.
The initiative aims to promote both physical wellbeing and community spirit while raising funds to support LGBTQIA+ projects and events across the region.
To take part, entrants are asked to make a £10 donation through the campaign’s fundraising page and send proof of registration to the Pride fundraising team.
Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a certificate, while participants who raise more than £25 will also receive a personalised commemorative keyring.
Jade Dando, Fundraising Manager for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, said the challenge offers a simple way for people to support the local LGBTQIA+ community while improving their own health and wellbeing.
“Miles for Pride is a fantastic way to combine staying active with supporting an important cause. Whether you’re walking around your neighbourhood or cycling further afield, every mile makes a difference.
“At a time when community and wellbeing are more important than ever, this event allows people to get involved in Pride Month in a meaningful and accessible way, while helping us continue our work supporting and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community locally.”
Organisers hope the challenge will encourage people who may not be able to attend traditional Pride events to participate in a different way while still feeling connected to the wider celebrations taking place throughout June.
The fundraiser comes ahead of another busy year for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, which continues to grow and attract support from across the county.
Residents interested in taking part are encouraged to sign up early, set personal goals and begin logging their miles throughout the month.
Further details and registration information can be found via the campaign’s fundraising page.
