Nine charities supporting people across Swindon have received a share of £7,600 raised by the Rotary Club of Swindon North and Thamesdown.
Representatives from the organisations attended a special presentation evening on 11 May where funds collected through the club’s annual Santa Sleigh appeal and Quiz and Ploughman’s Supper were formally handed over.
The charities benefiting from the donations were The Roxi Foundation, CALM, Swindon Community First Responders, Change Lives No to Knives, Wiltshire Treehouse, Headway, Big Breakfast Plus and Threshold.
Members of the Inner Wheel Club of North Wiltshire also attended the evening and donated their share of proceeds from the annual quiz event to CALM.
The Rotary Club said the money would support a wide range of local services, including projects focused on homelessness, bereavement support, brain injury recovery, autism and ADHD support, community safety and emergency response.
Among the recipients was anti-knife crime organisation Change Lives No to Knives, which works with schools, prisons and community groups to educate young people about the dangers of carrying weapons.
Jordan Turner from the charity thanked the Rotary Club for its support.
“We are dedicated to educating young people about the dangers and consequences of knife crime,” he said.
“Your donation will help us continue delivering our workshops, expand our outreach within schools, prisons, and community groups, and provide more life-saving equipment and support to those who need it most.
“Thank you again for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference.”
Rotary organisers said the success of the fundraising events reflected the continued generosity of local residents and supporters who contribute throughout the year.
The club added that it hopes the donations will help the charities continue delivering vital support services across Swindon and the surrounding area.
