Visitors to one of Wroughton’s most popular recreation areas can now enjoy a new picnic bench following improvements carried out by the parish council.
The new seating has been installed at the Maunsell Way recreation area, a well-used community space that includes a children’s play park and BMX pump track.
Members of Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council’s grounds team completed the installation on 15 June, with parish chairman Councillor John Hewer officially unveiling the new addition.
The bench has been positioned close to the recreation facilities and is intended to provide a comfortable place for families, residents and visitors to sit and enjoy the park, particularly during the summer months.
Parish council officials said the project forms part of a wider programme of improvements designed to enhance community spaces across Wroughton and Wichelstowe.
Councillor Hewer said he was pleased to see the bench installed ahead of the busy summer period and believed it would prove popular with local residents.
He said the parish council remained committed to delivering practical improvements across the area and hoped the new seating would be well used by those visiting the recreation ground.
The Maunsell Way recreation area is a popular destination for families and young people, with the play park and BMX track attracting regular visitors throughout the year.
The latest improvement follows other recent investments in local facilities by the parish council. Last month, new outdoor gym equipment was installed at Weir Field, providing residents with additional opportunities for outdoor exercise and recreation.
The gym equipment has been well received since its installation and has become a popular feature of the park.
Parish councillors say projects such as the new gym and picnic bench are aimed at ensuring public spaces remain welcoming, accessible and fit for the needs of local communities.
As more people make use of parks and outdoor facilities during the warmer months, councils across the country have increasingly focused on improving amenities that encourage residents to spend time outdoors and make use of local green spaces.
The addition of the new picnic bench may be a relatively small change, but parish leaders believe it will make a positive difference for those using the recreation area, whether they are supervising children at the play park, taking a break from the BMX track or simply enjoying time outdoors.
The installation is the latest example of ongoing investment in community facilities and reflects the parish council’s efforts to improve public spaces across Wroughton and Wichelstowe.
