A new community hub has opened its doors at Park Library in Cavendish Square, marking the first of four prototype hubs set to launch across the borough this year.
Led by Swindon Borough Council, the initiative brings a range of support services together under one roof, allowing residents to access advice in a single, familiar location rather than navigating multiple agencies.
The Park hub opened on 25 February and will operate as a prototype, meaning it will evolve in response to feedback from those who use it. While based at Park Library, the service is open to all Swindon residents, not just those living nearby.
Visitors can drop in for guidance on housing, employment, health and wellbeing, youth services and financial advice through Citizens Advice Swindon. Further services are expected to be added over time.
Opening hours
The hub operates during the library’s normal hours:
-
Monday: 10am to 5pm
-
Tuesday: 9am to 2.30pm
-
Wednesday: 10am to 5pm
-
Thursday: 10am to 5pm
-
Friday: 9am to 2.30pm
-
Saturday: 10am to 1pm
Further hubs are due to open at The Meadows in Penhill, Central Library in the town centre and West Swindon Library at the Link Centre during 2026, creating a network of local support spaces across Swindon.
Shaped by the community
The scheme builds on the borough’s established library network, with core library services continuing alongside the expanded hub offer. Each location will be co-designed with local residents to reflect the needs and priorities of its community rather than follow a single template.
Feedback from Park will help shape how future hubs operate, with the Council aiming to refine the approach as the network grows.
Councillor Jim Grant, Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said the opening represented a shift towards earlier, more accessible support.
“We’re really pleased to see our first community hub open here in Park,” he said.
“This is about making it easier for people to get the help they need, in a place they already know and trust.
“But it’s also about listening. We want residents and partners to help shape how it develops. If something works well, we’ll build on it. If something needs to change, we’ll change it. It has to work for the community.”
