Detectives in Swindon have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of a man found seriously injured in Manchester Road. The victim, believed to be in his twenties, was discovered early on the morning of 2nd July. Despite urgent efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called shortly after 5am and quickly established a cordon around the area to allow forensic teams to carry out a thorough examination. The arrested individual remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who is leading the investigation, has appealed to the public for any information that could assist the ongoing inquiry. He has also asked anyone who may have captured dash cam or CCTV footage to come forward. Of particular interest is a member of the public who initially alerted officers but did not leave their details.
DCI Walker has been keen to reassure the community, clarifying there is no connection between this incident and a recent counter terrorism arrest linked to the same address.
The police are still trying to locate the next of kin of the deceased and have urged anyone with relevant information to contact them quoting log number 47 of 2nd July. Calls can be made to 101 or, for those wishing to remain anonymous, via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. In emergencies, the public should always dial 999.
