For many families, it’s a day that arrives with a mixture of anticipation and quiet relief. School place offers have now been confirmed across Swindon—and for most, the news is a positive one.
Figures released by Swindon Borough Council show that 95.5 per cent of children due to start primary school this September have been offered their first-choice place. Stretch that to the top three preferences, and the number rises to 99.3 per cent.
It’s the sort of outcome that suggests a system, at least this year, has broadly held together.
Applications closed back in January, with families weighing up their options and submitting choices that, for many, will shape the next few years of daily life—school runs, friendships, routines and all the small details that come with them.
Offers were sent out today, 16 April, with parents who applied online receiving their results by email.
For Kashif Nawaz, the council’s Director of Education, the figures reflect the work carried out behind the scenes by the admissions team. Matching thousands of applications to available places is rarely straightforward, particularly in areas where demand can vary from one neighbourhood to the next.
“I’m really pleased that so many children have been offered a place at one of their preferred primary schools,” he said, adding that the results highlight the effort made to ensure families have access to suitable options across the borough.
For those who secured their first choice, the process ends here, replaced by the more immediate considerations of uniforms, term dates and the inevitable first-day nerves.
For others, where the outcome wasn’t quite as hoped, there remains the option to query decisions or explore next steps through the council’s admissions team.
Either way, it marks the beginning of a new chapter—not just for the children heading into Reception this autumn, but for their families as well.
And for most this year, it’s a start that looks reassuringly close to plan.
