If you had £25m to improve the town centre, where would you start?

With the news that Swindon Borough Council are to receive a share of the governments £830 million fund to help high streets recover from the coronavirus pandemic some of our readers are little dismayed that the money is being used on a project that was announced years ago, long before the start of the pandemic.

Communities secretary Robert Jenrick said the money would “help our much-loved town centres get through this (pandemic) and prosper into the future”.

Some suggestions from readers is that the money would be better used to entice more high street names back into Swindon increasing the choice on the high street.

  1. Town centre. New refurbished car park and lift next to house of Fraser. Move shops closer together, too spaced apart. Need attraction back to the centre. Council run nightclub? Sort out the night life and the town centre would pick up with footfall.
