With the General Election just weeks away we take a look back at the results for Swindon going back to 1997, Swindon’s first election with two seats up for grabs.
Due to the increasing size of the town 1995 saw Swindon being split into the two seats that we know it today, North and South Swindon.
This was also the first time in nearly twenty years that the town was in Labour control with Conservative Simon Coombs holding the seat from 1983 before coming in second to Labour’s Julia Drown in the Swindon South seat.
Labour then held onto both seats until 2010 when Justin Tomlinson took the North Swindon seat and Robert Buckland the South, seats they both continue to hold today and in each of the past two elections have increased their share of the votes.
