Covid vaccine supplies to see ‘significant reductions’ from 29 March

According to a letter sent to vaccination centres from NHS England, the UK is to face a “significant reduction” in vaccine supplies from March 29th.

The letter written by NHS chief commercial officer Emily Lawson, has warned volumes for first doses are going to “significantly constrained” at the end of this month.

“Our vaccination delivery programme was designed to be flexible, scaled up and diversified in line with fluctuating international vaccine supplies.” she said

“Thank you for your continued efforts, and, as ever, we are hugely grateful for everything that you are doing to make the NHS’s part in the delivery of this programme the success that it is.”

Healthcare workers are also now being advised that anyone under the age of 49, and not deemed ‘vulnerable’ should only be offered their first dose of the vaccine in “exceptional circumstances”.

According to Sky News the delay, which is expected to last upto four weeks, is down to “reductions in national inbound vaccines supply.” however in an interview this morning Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick said supply issues in the weeks ahead “isn’t anything people should be worried about”.
