Christmas shoppers bring Rodbourne to a standstill

Christmas shoppers making the most of the Black Friday ‘bargains’ have brought Rodbourne and much of central Swindon to a standstill for the second day running.

All roads leading to the Outlet in Rodbourne are at a standstill with popular GPS provider WAZE showing all roads in red with average speeds of travel along Westcott Place and up towards Rodbourne road at just 1mph with traffic backed up as far back as Mannington Roundabout.

The traffic is also showing as being backed up all the way along Great Western Way to the Transfer Bridges.

Some Rodbourne residents, who are used to the traffic woes in the run up to Christmas are making the most of the issues taking to social media to set up a guessing game with residents of the local community guessing how long it takes for them to get home.

The time it took this afternoon to travel from the Territorial Army Church Place to Redcliffe Street, a distance of 0.25 miles which should normally take under a minute, took a whopping 22 minutes!

This is despite Swindon Borough Council this week promising new measures to help the traffic flow in the area, imagine if they hadn’t put these measures in place!
