Old Town is about to get a generous helping of festive sparkle as South Swindon Parish Council prepares to turn the Town Gardens into a lively corner of Christmas charm. Over the next two weekends – 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st December – the much-loved Victorian park will play host to free seasonal entertainment, creative workshops and community performances, all running from 12pm to 4pm.
In a bid to ensure the event is welcoming to all, the Parish Council has confirmed that RevoLOOtion will attend each date, bringing along their fully accessible mobile facility. With a lift, grab rails, hoist and adult changing bench, it aims to remove any barriers that might prevent visitors from enjoying the festivities.
Those wandering through the Gardens will discover a winter setting brimming with activity. Young families can settle into Santa’s Craft Corner, where volunteers will be helping children create their own seasonal makes to take home. Meanwhile, the iconic Bandstand will ring out with music, movement and community spirit as local performers step into the spotlight. Names on the programme include Emma Doupé, JGMusic, Swindon Welcomes Ukraine Choir, Emily’s Dance Academy, SALOS, and several others eager to showcase the town’s creative energy.
Food traders will offer a tempting spread throughout the event. Expect everything from fresh bakes to global street food, thanks to stalls such as Hungry ‘n’ Thirsty, Lizzy Bakes, Soul Flava, Zapiekjanki and ZuDuzo Kitchen, all sitting comfortably alongside the ever-popular Town Gardens Café.
Adding an extra pinch of magic, visitors can encounter Air Giants’ impressive interactive plant installations dotted around the Bandstand area. The Swindon Culture Collective will also unveil its Magical Lantern Forest, an atmospheric trail created in collaboration with local artists.
There’s no need to book, just drop in on any of the dates between 12pm and 4pm. Free parking will be available at The Commonweal School for those travelling in.
