Swindon Speedway and the wider community have been saddened to hear of the death of club legend George White (pictured far right.)
White passed away in the early hours of December 30 at the age of 86.
After signing for the Robins from New Cross in 1954, he went on to make 265 appearances for the club and rack up an incredible 2235.5 points.
During his stint at the Abbey he also won the National League Second Division title in 1956 and the National League First Division title in 1957.
Two years later, in 1959, he reached the World Final where he scored a creditable seven points at Wembley Stadium.
White continued to be a popular figure at the Abbey until his retirement at the end of the 1961 campaign.
He will rightly be remembered as a true Robins’ legend and all our thoughts are with George’s family at this difficult time.
