So 2020 is upon us and its time to fill in those calendars and add important dates to the diary.
You’ve just about mastered dad’s birthday, Granny’s 80th and your best mates stag,
But what about the important dates, you know like, Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day.

When is Pancake Day 2020?
Shrove Tuesday falls 47 days before Easter Sunday, so the date will change each year. One thing you can count on though is it will be somewhere between February 3rd and March 9th.
In 2020 Pancake Day will fall on Tuesday February 25th.
What is Shrove Tuesday?
The word shrove is a form of the English word shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by way of Confession and doing penance. Shrove Tuesday was named after the custom of Christians to be “shriven” before the start of Lent.
Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter, and is a period of self examination and reflection. Christians often choose to give up something or volunteer.
Shrove Tuesday is the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before giving it all up for Lent, hence pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients.

Pancakes are a pretty easy and tasty treat to make and you can top them with whatever you like.
The traditional flavour is lemon juice and sugar, but don’t be afraid to mix it up. Nutella, berries and cream, you decide. Don’t have a sweet tooth go for a savoury pancake instead.
It’s so easy anyone can do it.
