UTC Swindon students celebrate GCSE and technical qualification success

Students at UTC Swindon are celebrating their GCSE and Level 2 technical qualification results, with a number of strong individual performances and a range of destinations now awaiting them.

Year 11 students collected their results this morning before looking ahead to the next stage of their education, training or employment.

UTC Swindon caters for 14 to 19-year-olds and combines traditional GCSE subjects with a STEM-focused education specialising in engineering, digital and cyber security.

The school also places an emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, working with employers to give students experience of the workplace and a clearer understanding of the careers available to them.

Among this year’s results, 100 per cent of students passed the Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Esports, with 85 per cent achieving a Distinction.

Engineering students recorded an 87 per cent pass rate in their Level 2 qualification, while 60 per cent of students taking triple science achieved grade 4 or above in GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

There was also success in Further Maths, with 57 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or higher.

Several students recorded particularly strong results.

Dinaack achieved nine GCSEs, with grades ranging from 7 to 9, and will remain at UTC Swindon to study Engineering.

Jahnavi also achieved strong results across all nine of her GCSEs, including a grade 8 in Further Maths.

Rousseau achieved 12 GCSEs, including grades 7 and 8 in French and Spanish, which he studied independently alongside his ten GCSE subjects at UTC Swindon. He will also remain at the school to join its sixth form.

Students are now heading in a variety of directions, including apprenticeships, further education and the UTC’s own sixth form.

Among them is Hugh, described by the school as its “very own tractor driver”, who will take up an apprenticeship with Chandlers Farm Equipment.

Headteacher Hollie Taylor praised the Year 11 students for the determination they had shown throughout their time at the school.

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and all they have achieved,” she said.

“Their results reflect not only their hard work, but also their resilience and determination throughout their time with us.”

She wished students heading into apprenticeships or college the best of luck, while looking forward to welcoming those returning to UTC Swindon for the sixth form in September.

Alongside their academic and technical qualifications, students have worked with a range of employer partners, gaining work-readiness skills and an insight into potential careers.

The school says these experiences are designed to give students a strong foundation as they move into the next stage of their lives, whether that means further study, an apprenticeship or employment.

UTC Swindon is also providing information, advice and guidance to students on results day, including those who remain unsure about what they want to do next.
