After many years serving the community, Prospect Hospice has confirmed its shop at 110 High Street, Marlborough, will close its doors for the final time on Saturday 6 September 2025.
The shop has long been a familiar sight in the town, providing not only a place to browse for bargains but also a steady source of support for the hospice’s work. The decision to close was described as “not an easy one”, but rising costs and shifting shopping habits have made it necessary for the charity to focus its resources where they can best sustain patient care.
Stuart Necrews, Head of Commercial Income at Prospect Hospice, said:
“We are so thankful to the staff, volunteers, donors and customers who have supported this shop over the years. Closing the doors is not a decision we wanted to make, but it is a necessary one to ensure we can continue providing outstanding care to local people at the end of their lives.”
Although the closure marks the end of an era for 110 High Street, Prospect Hospice will continue its presence in Marlborough through its other store at 130a High Street. Donations can still be made there, even items that are not usually stocked, as these will be distributed across the hospice’s wider network of shops.
In addition to Marlborough, Prospect Hospice runs shops in Pewsey and across Swindon, including its specialist Books & Media shop on Victoria Road. Each store helps to raise essential funds for the charity’s services, which provide specialist end-of-life care for people across the community.
A spokesperson for the charity said the hospice remains hugely grateful for the loyalty shown by supporters in Marlborough and hopes that people will continue to back its work, whether by donating goods, shopping in-store, or giving their time as volunteers.
