Parents of children intending to start school in September 2020 must apply for their school by the end of today. Wednesday, January 15th.
- You can apply for a junior school place if your child was born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013.
- You still need to apply for a transfer to a junior school if your child currently attends an infant school. Your child doesn’t automatically qualify for a place if they attend the related infant school.
| 15 January 2020 | Primary application closing date. You can make an application after this date, but it will be a late application. Late applications are not considered until all on-time applications have been considered and allocated. |
| 15 March 2020 | Deadline to submit a change of address for consideration. |
| 16 April 2020 | Offer day. You will receive your offer of a primary school place. |
| 30 April 2020 | Deadline day for accepting an offer. |
But if you’re worried you’re likely to miss out on the place you want, or if something went wrong with your application, what are your options?
How likely am I to miss out on my first choice school for my child?
According to Department for Education stats, 88.4% of parents got an offer from the school at the top of their list and 96.3% of parents received an offer from one of their top three schools in 2016.
What if I applied to the wrong schools or have changed my mind – can I change my application?
After today it is still possible to change your mind on which school you want to apply for. You would have to submit a new application, which would be treated as late. This means you will be allocated a place after the applicants who submitted their forms before the deadline.
To apply online you need to go to the Swindon Borough Council website.
