There have been calls from some councillors for Swindon Borough Council to look at cancelling council tax bills during the pandemic, do you think this would be a good idea?
Well, Newcastle City Council have announced a £6.1million support package that will mean around 23,500 low-income households eligible for a council tax reduction, will be given £150 off their annual bill for the 2020/21 payment period.
This will leave approximately 15,000 households paying nothing at all.
The support package is aimed at those who have seen their income take a hit due to being either furloughed or actually losing their jobs due to the coronavirus.
However, Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes, speaking to the Chronicle, has warned that there may not me enough money to offer support to everyone that needs it and has gone to the government for more help.
Should Swindon Borough Council follow suit?
