From Blunsdon to Central Swindon the only thing guaranteed tonight is a night of tension for all those involved in the local elections.
With the polls staying open until 10pm many people are asking ‘what time will we know the result?.’
There is always a race to be the first council to return their result and that is likely to be Sunderland, they have done in six of the last seven general elections. Swindon will not be too far behind.
Here is the timeline for this evening:
10pm
The polls close. An army of counters will be waiting at The Oasis ready to count the votes as they are delivered.
11.30pm onwards
If you were hoping to sit down for some relaxing TV, forget it. Television coverage will start on most mainstream channels. Various channels will have outside broadcasts around the country. No news if Swindon will be one of them this year although with the town being selected for the voter ID trial it may well be centre of the evening.
1am
Sunderland will do doubt have registered their result by now.
Swindon should not be too far behind with the major players in the Labour party believing Swindon could turn red for the first time in fourteen years.
