An 18-year-old has been arrested and is currently in custody after a police officer was spat at during an incident in Swindon last night.
Police were called to a reported disorder in Pinehurst Road at around 7pm yesterday (1/5/19).
A man was arrested at the scene and while he was being restrained he spat in the face of a female police officer.
He also spat whilst being transported to custody in a police van.
An 18-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage. He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
Insp Rachel Hardy, based in Swindon, said: “I am sure the vast majority of the public would agree that it is particularly disgusting for an officer to be spat at, let alone to be spat at in the face.
“It is completely unacceptable that our officers and staff have to put up with such abuse which could have serious health implications.
“Our officers were there to keep the peace and resolve a potentially violent incident, and do not deser
