Swindonians were woken in the early hours by a massive thunderstorm with huge bolts of lightning flashing across the sky.
Social media is awash with pictures and videos from locals who witnessed the incredible lightning display between 1-4am.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 28 this afternoon before peaking at 33C tomorrow. With 38C expected in London this would pass the current record for a day in July – 36.7C – recorded at Heathrow Airport in 2015.
