Swindon has taken its investment ambitions to one of the world’s leading aerospace events, with the Borough Council using the Farnborough International Airshow to promote the town as a destination for advanced manufacturing, defence and technology businesses.
Representatives from Swindon Borough Council’s Inward Investment team attended the international event to meet companies from across the UK and overseas, highlighting the opportunities available for businesses looking to invest, expand or establish operations in the town.
Central to the visit was the launch of Swindon’s Defence Sector Proposition, which sets out the borough’s strengths, including its strategic location, skilled workforce and growing network of advanced engineering and manufacturing firms.
The delegation also met organisations already helping to shape Swindon’s growing reputation in the sector, including TEKEVER, iCOMAT and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Their continued investment in the town was presented as evidence of Swindon’s increasing importance within the UK’s aerospace and defence industries.
One of the highlights of the airshow came from TEKEVER, which unveiled its new AR6 family of heavy-lift autonomous systems. The company has confirmed the aircraft will be manufactured at its Swindon facility, further strengthening the town’s position as a centre for high-tech production and innovation.
Councillor Gary Sumner, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “Farnborough provides a unique opportunity to put Swindon in front of companies from across the globe and demonstrate why our borough is such an attractive place to invest.
“We want more businesses to recognise what those already operating here have discovered and that Swindon offers the location, talent, infrastructure and ambition needed to support long-term growth.
“Our focus is firmly on attracting new investment, creating high-quality jobs for residents and ensuring Swindon continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre for advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence.”
The council says discussions begun at the airshow will continue in the coming months as officers work with prospective investors and industry leaders to attract new businesses, create skilled jobs and support future economic growth across the borough.
