A convicted sex offender from Swindon has been jailed after breaching the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) less than two months after it was imposed.
Joe Crawley, 23, of Woodford Close, Penhill, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday, 10 July, where he was sentenced to 25 months in prison.
Earlier this year, Crawley was convicted of multiple child sex offences, including two counts of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, as well as making and distributing indecent images of children.
In April, he received a suspended prison sentence and was made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposed strict conditions on his online activity.
However, on 10 June, less than two months after the order came into force, Crawley was arrested on suspicion of two breaches of the SHPO.
Wiltshire Police said the breaches related to his use of an artificial intelligence chat application and an anonymous online video chat platform. Under the terms of the order, he was prohibited from using such services without first informing supervising officers and obtaining their approval.
Following his guilty plea, Crawley was jailed for 25 months.
PC Katie Owers, from Wiltshire Police’s Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team, welcomed the sentence.
“Crawley is a dangerous individual who knowingly and deliberately breached the conditions of his SHPO just months after they were put in place to protect the public.
“I’m pleased the courts have taken this seriously and he now faces a custodial sentence.”
