Wanborough Tennis Club has secured national recognition after being selected as an LTA Under-10 Performance Centre, becoming the only club in Wiltshire to receive the prestigious designation.
Following a competitive selection process, the club has been chosen as one of just 13 venues across England and Wales to deliver the Lawn Tennis Association’s elite development programme for young players.
The initiative, which begins in September, will be led by the club’s Head Coach Becky Watts, supported by her husband Neil Watts, a former world-ranked player and current Head Coach at Marlborough Tennis Club.
The programme is designed to identify and nurture talented children from toddler age through to 10 years old, helping them develop the skills needed to compete at national level.
For Becky, the appointment marks another milestone in a coaching career that began in Swindon when she was just 17. Born and raised in Wanborough, she first competed in a tennis tournament aged 10 and has represented Wiltshire since the age of 11.
She has already coached several national Under-10 champions and continues to work with a number of players representing Wiltshire at county level.
The LTA’s decision is seen as recognition of both Becky’s coaching credentials and the club’s growing reputation for developing young talent.
Tim Thurston, Chair of Wanborough Tennis Club, said: “This is a significant achievement and a huge endorsement of both Becky’s outstanding quality as a coach and the strength of our club.
“Becky’s dedication to developing young players has been instrumental in creating an environment where children can thrive and reach their potential.”
The two-year programme is expected to attract talented youngsters from across Wiltshire, while further raising the profile of both Wanborough Tennis Club and the village itself.
Club officials believe the appointment will create new opportunities for aspiring players and strengthen the club’s long-term development, cementing its place among the country’s leading centres for junior tennis.
