Swindon audiences will be stepping into something special this autumn as SALOS prepares to stage Kinky Boots in the town for the very first time.
Rehearsals are now underway for the award-winning musical, which will run at the Wyvern Theatre from Wednesday, 21 October to Sunday, 25 October 2026.
Based on the inspirational true story that also became a hit film, Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price, who unexpectedly inherits his family’s struggling shoe factory. Faced with mounting financial pressures, his fortunes begin to change after an unlikely meeting with the charismatic drag performer Lola, whose bold ideas could be the key to saving both the business and Charlie’s future.
Packed with humour, heart and an uplifting message about acceptance and self-belief, the musical features a Grammy and Tony Award-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, with a book by Harvey Fierstein. Favourite songs include Raise You Up, The Land of Lola and Not My Father’s Son.

Founded in 1951, SALOS has been at the heart of Swindon’s amateur theatre scene for more than seven decades, earning a reputation for ambitious productions and high production values. Previous shows have included Evita, Shrek The Musical, The Sound of Music and Oklahoma!, showcasing the depth of local performing talent.
Following its successful West End revival, Kinky Boots continues to attract new audiences with its infectious soundtrack, colourful characters and uplifting story. The Swindon production will give local theatre-goers the chance to experience one of musical theatre’s biggest modern successes without leaving the town.
