A leading Swindon mobility manufacturer is inviting people with reduced mobility to apply for a new community fund designed to help make life more accessible and turn long-held ambitions into reality.
Sunrise Medical has launched its Community Fund, offering up to £5,000 to support projects and experiences that remove the practical and financial barriers often faced by disabled people and wheelchair users.
The initiative aims to improve access to community spaces and opportunities while helping people achieve personal goals that may otherwise be out of reach because of mobility challenges or the additional costs associated with accessible travel and equipment.
Funding could help make a dream family holiday possible by covering the cost of accessible accommodation, support a long-postponed honeymoon, or provide specialist travel adaptations to enable someone to see the Northern Lights for the first time.
The fund could also support more local ambitions, such as hiring specialist mobility equipment for a supervised beach visit or helping someone walk down the aisle on their wedding day using a standing wheelchair.
Sunrise Medical says it is looking for applications that demonstrate how financial support could make a meaningful difference to an individual’s quality of life by enabling them to take part in important experiences, celebrations or activities.

Sometimes it’s about accessing equipment or assistance that helps someone do something they’ve always wanted to do, while other times it’s about creating opportunities that build independence, confidence and enjoyment.
“We’re encouraging people to share their stories with us and tell us what experience, opportunity or support would make the biggest difference to them. We want this fund to have a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of people with mobility issues.
“Whether it’s supporting a special family trip, celebrating a milestone occasion, or helping someone do something they’ve wanted to do for a long time, we’re looking forward to supporting as many people as possible across Swindon.”
Applications will be assessed by a panel of Sunrise Medical representatives, with decisions based on the positive impact the funding could have on applicants and their ability to achieve aspirations that might otherwise remain out of reach.
The Community Fund is now open for applications and will close at 11.59pm on 30 September 2026.
