Unveiling the Children’s Story Bus: In a moment of pride and accomplishment, SHAP recently unveiled its latest project, the Children’s Story Bus, to local dignitaries and media representatives.

The event, attended by BBC TV and radio, saw SHAP Chair Mike Bowden expressing gratitude to all those involved in bringing the initiative to fruition. From initial contacts with the bus industry to donations and volunteer efforts, the community rallied together to create a space filled with joy and learning for children.

Local artist Billy Beaumont’s captivating mural adorns the interior, adding a touch of artistic flair to the initiative with the bus set to embark on a journey to Calais, where it will be handed over to SHAP’s Ukrainian colleagues to serve schools and community centres across Ukraine in the coming weeks.

Cultural Exchange and Solidarity: Highlighting the significance of cultural exchange, Swindon welcomed the Ukrainian National Opera Company at the Wyvern Theatre this past weekend. SHAP facilitated discounted tickets for the performance of “Madam Butterfly,” treating a packed audience to an exceptional rendition and a poignant rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem.

Commemorating a Sombre Anniversary: As the 24th of February marks the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, SHAP, in collaboration with The Swindon Concert Band, is organising a concert at Christ Church in Old Town. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing crisis and a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

Impactful Aid Efforts: Over the past month, SHAP has dispatched two 40′ articulated trucks laden with essential supplies from its warehouse in the centre of Swindon. From hygiene products to medical aids and food supplies, these provisions are reaching ordinary individuals affected by the conflict.

As SHAP’s volunteers continue their tireless efforts, these gestures of compassion and solidarity offer hope and tangible relief to those enduring the hardships of conflict in Ukraine.
