Swindon Borough Council’s ‘pay on foot’ car parks go cashless from today

Earlier this year, Swindon Borough Council announced that its four town centre ‘pay on foot’ car parks are going 100 percent cashless, in a ‘temporary measure’ which will limit the need for customers  to touch the payment machines.

From today, Monday 8th February, shoppers can take a ticket on entry and pay via card or contactless devices on foot at one of the pay stations located in the car parks below:

  • Brunel North
  • Brunel West,
  • Fleming Way
  • Whalebridge

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We already have contactless card payments at Brunel North, Brunel West, Fleming Way and Whalebridge car parks, but the current pandemic has led to more of our customers using this payment method.

“This is a temporary measure which will also keep our staff and customers safe by reducing the need to touch the machinery. Car park users who want to pay by cash can still do so by using our pay and display car parks.”

The town Centre is currently operating on a partially open basis due to national restrictions.

This means that only essential stores are open, including Boots, Tesco, Superdrug and The Post Office at WH Smith.

In line with government guidance, a small number of stores are offering a click and collect service and some food outlets are providing takeaways.
