Spring has made a timely entrance at Longleat, with sunshine drawing out both the animals and the crowds.
Across the estate, there’s been a noticeable lift in pace as warmer weather settles in. Visitors strolling through the grounds have been met with scenes that feel a world away from the grey of recent months — from animals basking in the sun to boats gliding across a busy lake.
High in the trees, one of the park’s red pandas has been making the most of the conditions, stretched out along the branches and soaking up the warmth. It’s a similar story elsewhere, with the resident koalas — a rarity in the UK — also spotted relaxing in the spring sunshine.
Down on the water, a group of California sea lions has been entertaining passers-by, slipping in and out of the lake as Jungle Cruise boats carry visitors around the estate. The combination of sunshine and activity has given the whole area a noticeably livelier feel.
Beyond the animals, the wider grounds are coming into their own. The lawns and formal gardens surrounding Longleat House are beginning to show the first full signs of the season, with visitors taking advantage of the brighter conditions to explore the parkland.
It’s a familiar pattern for this time of year, but no less welcome for it. After a long winter, the return of decent weather has brought with it a simple pleasure — animals out in the open, families out for the day, and a historic estate looking its best.
If the past few days are anything to go by, Longleat’s spring has well and truly arrived.
