A parent took to the popular website mumsnet to suggest something to fellow mums… and it is fair to say they didn’t like it!
The woman asked: “Why don’t we just do away with school holidays entirely?
“Run schools like a regular workplace in that they operate 52 weeks of the year.
“Teachers and students to get four weeks allocated holiday allowance per year and parents can use this at their discretion.
“Staff would be able to be more flexible and they would have more time in the year to teach children at a more realistic pace.”
She then goes on to ask: “Am I missing why this isn’t a genius idea?”
The responses she received were heavily on the side of leaving schools as they are now although there were a couple come out in favour of her idea with one parent writing “I actually think you’re right”
Below are some of the comments received with one parent claiming the mother didn’t have “the best interests of the kids” in her idea.
Another response was “Perhaps because children don’t run the same way as adults?” quickly followed by another user claiming the idea would be “impossible to implement.”
It didn’t take long for the thoughts to turn to the teachers “The kids would burn out, never mind the teachers”.
What do you think? Do the school holidays work, should they be scrapped altogether?
