Police Appeal After Two Tonnes of Copper Wiring Stolen from Swindon Industrial Estate

Police are appealing for witnesses after thieves stole around two tonnes of copper wiring from warehouses on a Swindon industrial estate.

The burglary took place at a commercial site on Thornhill Industrial Estate between the evening of 9 June and the morning of 10 June.

According to Wiltshire Police, offenders gained access to the estate using a lorry after cutting through a lock securing the entrance gates. They then entered two warehouses owned by the same company and removed a substantial quantity of copper wiring from the walls.

Investigators believe the theft would have required significant planning and equipment due to the volume of material taken.

As part of their enquiries, officers are also examining an incident that occurred at around 9pm on 9 June when an individual wearing a grey tracksuit and gloves was seen pushing down CCTV cameras at a neighbouring property.

Police have not confirmed whether the person captured on camera was directly linked to the burglary, but the incident forms part of their investigation.

Copper theft continues to be a costly problem for businesses across the country, with rising metal prices making industrial sites an attractive target for organised criminals.

Wiltshire Police are now urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Thornhill Industrial Estate area during the relevant period, or who may have seen a lorry entering or leaving the site, to come forward.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact PC Beresford-Smith by email, quoting details of the incident.

Enquiries remain ongoing.
