A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm following a serious assault at a building site in Purton.
James Denys, 36, of Ravensdale, East Wichel, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 25 July, charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH). He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 21 August.
The charge relates to an incident at the Widham Gardens development on Thursday, 23 July, in which a man in his 20s allegedly sustained a serious head injury after being stabbed with a screwdriver.
The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a stable but critical condition, according to Wiltshire Police.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a second 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.
