Lawn Manor Academy pupils thrilled with GCSE results

Pupils at Lawn Manor Academy were in great spirits this morning as they collected their GCSE results.  The teacher-assessed grades have been calculated using a thorough process at the school which involved considering all the work that they have completed throughout their course to allocate their grade. This was then quality assured in school and by the examination boards.

Lawn Manor Academy Headteacher Sandra Muir said the young people have put an enormous amount of work into their studies to ensure that they have the qualifications that take them to the next stage in their education, whether that be college, sixth form or an apprenticeship.

Sandra Muir said: “I’m immensely proud of the achievements of all of our pupils, especially with the challenges that they have had over the past year.

“They adapted well to the quality on-line learning that was on offer at Lawn Manor Academy and have shown great resilience throughout the changes that they have had to make to their education in the pandemic.  These young people have worked incredibly hard and have been supported well by the amazing teachers that we have at Lawn Manor Academy.  We all wish them well as they move to the next steps in their lives and education.”

Examples of the Lawn Manor Academy pupils who did extremely well are:

Maria, of Park South, has achieved seven 9s and one 8 and is going onto New College to study physics, chemistry, maths and psychology.

“I’m so pleased, so happy, it’s better than I thought and I can hardly find the words to express it,” said Maria.

Alex, of Badbury Park, has achieved five 9s’, one 8 and two distinction passes and is going onto study physics, maths, further maths and computing at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Sixth Form.

When Alexandru moved with his family to the UK from Romania four years ago he could not speak English. Since then he has not only achieved exceptional exam results but has also taught himself to play classical, jazz and pop piano. He was delighted with his results.

“Additional maths was the hardest, but I did work hard and it feels amazing – it was really worth all the hard work to get these results,” he said.

Abdullah, of central Swindon, has achieved six 9s and will be studying physics, computing, maths and further maths at New College next year.

“I was hoping I’d done well but I didn’t expect them to be this good,” said Abdullah. “My parents have been quite nervous so they are going to love this.”

Zahra, of Old Walcot, achieved two 9s, three 8s and several 7s, and is going to Commonweal Sixth Form to study English literature, biology and psychology.

“I’m really happy with my results,” said Zahra. “I’m leaning towards a career in philosophy and politics, so this is great.”
