Julia Drown, who served as South Swindon’s Labour MP from 1997 to 2005, will be back in Swindon on Saturday to show her support and solidarity for workers at Honda and the wider supply chain who are set to lose their jobs once Honda closes its doors in 2021.
She said, “I am seriously concerned about the impact of Brexit on manufacturing and other jobs. The uncertainty is not good for investment. The difficulties that have now become apparent with operating outside the European Union risk UK jobs. Honda is important to Swindon and I want to see Honda re-think its decision so that it remains in the Town”.
Sarah Church, Labour’s current Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon, said, “I’m so pleased to see Julia back in Swindon again- she is still a true advocate of our town. We’ll be standing shoulder to shoulder with the workers from Honda and all the other affected businesses when we march on Saturday. Swindon’s workforce deserve better, and we hope that Honda will choose to stay.”
