A Swindon man has been given a 24 week prison sentence and disqualified from driving for a further four years after he was stopped while drink driving earlier this week.
Officers stopped 40-year-old James Keelan on The Drive, Nythe, Swindon, just after midnight on 14 May.
A subsequent breath test revealed he had 42mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg. They also discovered he was already disqualified from driving for a previous offence and was using false number plates on his car.
Keelan, of County Road, Swindon, was charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and driving while using a fraudulent licence plate.
He appeared before Salisbury Magistrates’ Court later that day (14 May) and pleaded guilty to all four charges. He was sentenced to 24 weeks custody, ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge and £85 towards legal fees.
PC Luke Hobbs, from Swindon North CPT, said: “Drivers like Keelan are selfish, dangerous and happily put themselves, and the wider public, at risk as soon as they get behind the wheel of a car.
“The prison sentence and lengthy ban demonstrates just how seriously both Wiltshire Police and the justice system take this type of offence. We are just grateful that no one was hurt while Keelan took to the road.”
